CHILDREN
Spirituality of Children

Children have their own spiritual lives from the very beginning.
Little ones first experience love and the mystery of life through their relationships with us.
Later on they find other people and experiences that help them grow spiritually. For now, we can offer them space, language, and practices to grow.

Signs of a child's spirituality show up in their
  •   attachment - receptivity - love & gratitude - unself-consciousness
  •   imagination - creativity - curiosity - wonder - playfulness
  •   compassion - sense of justice - passion to change the world

At each developmental stage, children have different understandings and expressions of their relationship with the divine
and these can be fostered with age appropriate activities and conversations.

We can support our children’s spiritual growth by
  •         Attending to our own spiritual path as persons and parents.
  •         Welcoming our children into the unique spirituality of our family, their first faith community.
  •         Introducing our children to the wider spiritual community to which we are attached.
  •         Practicing and exploring faith together.
  •         Letting go & remaining steady as children form their own spiritual identity.
